Music, the EYFS and you ... Sue Nicholls is known to many of us through her excellent publications of musical activities for young children. This one day course will explore the implications of not only the EYFS requirements for musical activity, but examine the cross over into Pre Prep (KS1) also. Moving Forward on Dyspraxia This course will increase your understanding of different types of dyspraxia, and your confidence to identify children in your classroom with aspects of this condition. Inspection Regulations - Repeat This is a repeat of the course held in York on 16 November 2009. This course is designed to help schools understand the new inspection arrangements and how they can best prepare themselves for short notice inspections. It builds on the briefings for schools held by ISI in June, but considers the new inspection framework from the school's point of view rather than the inspectors'. The course will look at what the regulations mean for schools and the role of self evaluation as an important tool for being "inspection ready." Important Note: Delegates are requested to bring a copy of the ISI Handbook for Inspections - The Regulatory Requirements and the Pre-Inspection Package for Schools. The speaker will make frequent reference to these documents during the day - it will, therefore, be necessary for each delegate to have their own copy. Classics for All For too long Latin (and to an even greater extent Greek) has been seen as the preserve of the elite; a subject pursued by top set pupils only. This conference will bring colleagues up to speed with practical approaches and strategies to make Latin accessible and attractive to young children of all abilities, with particular emphasis on the lower achievers. Safeguarding Children in Your School This course will look at current safeguarding requirements in a prep school context. It will consider the implications of the Singleton Report and how they impact on the requirements for both day and boarding prep schools. Attention will be drawn to the demands of 'safer recruitment'. The role of bothe the school's designated child protection officer and the early years child protection officer will be clarified. This course will examine what the role should involve, including monitoring and evaluating teaching and learning, and how this can support whole school development. Adding Value for Money for Parents Children who need additional support in their learning are often tutored individually outside the classroom, a service for which many schools charge additional fees. In these straitened times, integrating this provision into classroom practice can be beneficial for both parents and schools, as well as advantageous for children's learning. This course will look criticially at how schools are using the resources of their SENCO and learning support department. It will offer practical ideas, resources and examples from prep schools to support and enhance good teaching and learning in the classroom, and help provide effective differentiation for all children, including G&T. From EYFS into KS1 The Implications of EYFS for IAPS Schools The transition from Reception to Year 1 has raised many issues for independent schools, particularly since the introduction of the EYFS. This course aims to show how children benefit from the EYFS curriculum without compromising ealry skill development in the key areas of literacy and numeracy. ISC NQT Induction - Inexperienced Tutors This conference is designed for induction tutors and subject mentors responsible for NQTs registered with the ISC Teacher Induction Panel, who have no prior experience of the process. It is open to teachers from all the independent school associations. The key areas covered will include the updated DCSF regulations, the role of the Teacher Induction Panel, the role of the mentor in practice, quality assurance, and support and assessing NQTs against the standards.
