This is a repeat of the course held in York on 16 November 2009.
This course is designed to help schools understand the new inspection arrangements and how they can best prepare themselves for short notice inspections. It builds on the briefings for schools held by ISI in June, but considers the new inspection framework from the school's point of view rather than the inspectors'. The course will look at what the regulations mean for schools and the role of self evaluation as an important tool for being "inspection ready."
Important Note:
Delegates are requested to bring a copy of the ISI Handbook for Inspections - The Regulatory Requirements and the Pre-Inspection Package for Schools. The speaker will make frequent reference to these documents during the day - it will, therefore, be necessary for each delegate to have their own copy. | PSHE Tutoring and Anti-Bullying Strategies |
This course will provide an insight into how Childline and the NSPCC approach the issues and support the work of schools. The day will also include a Child Online and Exploitation Protection presentation. A session will be given over to the types, dynamics and strategies for bullying and cyber bullying. We will include bullying reduction strategies/sanctions and how to help victims. There will also be a forum at the end of the day to share ideas and discuss methods and approaches used in our schools. This course was fully booked when it was last run so early booking is advisable.

This year has been declared the National Year of Reading as research suggests that children's interest in reading declines with age. In this course we will seek to identify the factors that create successful and enthusiastic readers and the impact of reading on children's learning. We will examine the vital role of speaking and listening in early reading development and the interdependence of all aspects of literacy. Approaches to the development of specific reading skills will be examined as well as how different teaching styles impact on children's attitudes and responsiveness to reading. |
